Exchange Transfusion Tray


Description

The exchange-transfusion tray is indicated for alloimmune hemolytic disease of the newborn, hyperbilirubinemia, severe anemia, and polycythemia. The technique consists of the replacement of most of the patient blood with donor blood. This replacement is made by split and successive volume-to-volume exchanges, to remove abnormal blood components and circulating toxins whilst maintaining adequate circulating blood volume.

Contents of the tray:

  • 1 four-way stopcock equipped with 1 injection site (for injections of additional medication),
  • 1 extension tube for the evacuation of the discarded blood,
  • 1 5Fr exchange transfusion catheter (PVC – XRO), 37 cm long, with 2 sides holes and centimetric markings,
  • 1 7Fr exchange transfusion catheter (PVC – XRO), 37 cm long, with 2 sides holes and centimetric markings,
  • 2 20 ml Luer-lock syringes,
  • 1 10 ml Luer-slip syringe,
  • 1 16 x 0.5 mm (25G) Luer hypodermic needle,
  • 1 graduated plastic container (2000 ml),
  • 1 transfusion set, 163 cm long, 18.8 ml dead volume,
  • 1 15 cm ruler,
  • 3 50 x 50 mm gauze dressings,
  • 1 50 x 60 cm fenestrated drape,
  • 1 pair of gloves,
  • 1 air-venting needle,
  • 1 control sheet.
